« Nomades », small Raku characters - Alain Kurylo

These silhouettes entitled « Nomades » were created by Alain Kurylo. They were made using the raku technique, which consists in smoking the pieces in wood shavings or sawdust in order to give this cracked aspect to his work. They are mounted on a base.

Born in 1952 in Chantilly, Alain Kurylo studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d'Art which he completed in the 1970s. He is a student of the sculptor Volti and the designer Serge Mouille.

For nearly fifteen years, the human figure has occupied a predominant place in his work. Expressive silhouettes with pure lines are declined: rough, rough, cracked, torn, broken, they are articulated in a wide variety of materials. Indeed, the artist leaves room for the material: steel, stainless steel, wood, rusted steel, clay.
