JOANNA HAIR
For 35 years, Joanna Hair has been modelling animals by shaping Baillet soil with her bare hands and cooking them with the Raku method. This method of cooking at 1000°C is as magical as it is tiring and perilous. The sculptures still glow bright red when removed from the oven. They are then dipped in sawdust before being cooled with water. This particular treatment of earth and enamel creates random patinas and cracks that end up giving truth and singularity to the animals.
Joanna Hair has the power to put the earth in motion. It creates a world where the eruption of a volcano gives birth to animals of a majestic truth.
