These singular «fabric paintings » dating from the 50s were initiated in China: They are the result of the recycling of fabrics that had become too worn. This work is composed of an assembly of fragments from the recovery of old pieces of clothing, fixed with a base of rice glue.
We like the graphic character of these unique pieces, as well as the play of contrasts and tones created by the superimposed materials.
The «Ge Ba», paintings belonging to the genre of art known as «brut», have inspired a large number of artists such as Paul Klee or Serge Poliakoff. Some of them have been exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, at the EDF Foundation in Paris, or at the Pompidou Center, but have only recently been offered for sale.
