« Kple kple » mask - Goli, Baulé, Ivory Coast

This  « Kple kple » mask comes from Goli, Baulé, located in Ivory Coast. It is made of hardwood and decorated with black, white and red ochre pigments.

This disc-shaped mask is topped by two curved horns that join each other at the tips. The surface is covered with a black coating. The protruding eyes are surrounded by ochre and white. The mouth with exposed teeth is indicated in a rectangle painted in ochre.

This piece has retained its original patina.
