« Guardian », Raku on sheet metal - Alain Kurylo

This silhouette, entitled « Guardian », was designed by Alain Kurylo. It is carried out according to the raku technique, consisting in smoking the piece in wood chips or sawdust, in order to give this cracked aspect to his work. This silhouette is affixed to a sheet metal plate.

Born in 1952 in Chantilly, Alain Kurylo studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d'Art, which he completed in the 1970s. He is the student of the sculptor named Volti and the designer Serge Mouille.
For nearly fifteen years, the human figure has occupied a prominent place in his work. Expressive silhouettes with refined lines are available: rough, raw, cracked, torn, broken, they are articulated in a wide variety of materials. Indeed, the artist gives way to materials: stainless steel, wood, rusty steel, earth.
